Colonel Kurtz

I tried to draw Colonel Walter E. Kurtz from Apocalypse now, without drawing Marlon Brando.

I always wondered what was going on in his head. Marlon Brando pretty much re-made the character from scratch, including his noble attempt making him look like some kind of six-foot-six übermensch that no ammount of camerawork could impose over the fact that Brando was just fat. Also, he improvised most of his lines.

So assuming Marlon Brando wasn't just making shit up on the go and since we see so little of Kurtz in the movie, it always makes me wonder what was he doing off-screen and how did he end up like that.
